We were all disappointed with our Flyers being eliminated. Especially to the Pittsburgh Penguins. But the news was not all bad. The Flyers were much improved from the season before and now look like they have a bright future that could earn the team a Stanley Cup. We know general manager Paul Holmgren is going to do everything he can to improve this team for next season, but the first question on the agenda is whether the team will be able to resign captain Jason Smith who is available on the free agent market on July 1 as well as restricted free agent Jeff Carter.
Holmgren said resigning Carter was a top priority and Carter claims he wants to return saying, “Obviously, I don’t want to go anywhere. I love playing in Philadelphia, and I want to be here for a long time. We have to sit down with my agent, [Holmgren] and everybody, and hopefully we can get something done as soon as possible.” That sounds promising.
The team is optimistic for next season. Simon Gagne should be healthy for training camp and should be a big contributer. Danny Briere sounded so optimistic that it made me think he wanted next season to start tomorrow. Danny said, “I feel like we’re just starting to reach where we can go. We’re climbing, and just starting to get noticed. Everybody knows the commitment of this organization, so it’s very positive.”
I know I wish next season started tomorrow as well. This Flyers team is going places!
